Make a difference in your community and join our mission today!

Empower Leelanau County Residents

The Friendship Community Center has been a gathering space for Leelanau County residents since 1853. Our nonprofit is committed to continuing to provide opportunities that strengthen the diverse bonds within our community. Volunteers are central to our community-based mission. Here are a few ways that you can serve at The Center:

  • Special Event Planning: Planning, preparing, and attending The Center's events and fundraisers throughout the year

  • Administration: General office duties; mailings, printouts, and record-keeping

  • Maintenance: The Center needs handy, helpful people to pitch in periodically for light to moderate repairs and upkeep

Empower Leelanau County Residents

We take our community stewardship very seriously. That's why we set high standards for our volunteers. We ask the following of you in order to volunteer with us.

  • Background Check: We will require your permission to run a thorough background check to ensure the safety and security of our staff and benefactors.

  • Volunteer Guidelines: When you sign up to volunteer, you will be asked to follow a set of guidelines that will support healthy and safe relationships with our staff and benefactors

  • Volunteer Orientation: Within the first few months of your volunteering, we will ask you to attend one of our regularly scheduled volunteer orientations to learn more about our organization as well as some crucial information for interacting with community members

  • Commitment: Consistency is one of the most important factors in a successful nonprofit. We ask that you demonstrate a consistent commitment to our programs.
